THE WORLD SPIRIT - Part 1:

A Seven-Level World View

World Spirit: Senses

The pictures should actually stand for themselves and be self-explanatory. Nevertheless, I would like to briefly outline the pictures and put them into context.

The aim of this series of images (reality, senses, media) is to show the transition from reality to the imagination of the world. In the last picture, the earth was represented as a symbol for reality. At this point, the senses of the subjects who perceive reality or objects are visualized. The senses can be categorized as follows:

  1. Hearing, auditory perception with the ears
  2. Smell, the olfactory perception with the nose
  3. Taste, the gustatory perception with the tongue
  4. Seeing, the visual perception with the eyes
  5. Feeling, tactile perception with the skin

The sensory organs ultimately transmit the stimuli from the environment to the brain via the nerves. There the signals are converted into (subjective) sensations. The easiest visual representation of a subject's sensations would surely be a human being. In anticipation of the next level of perception with the help of media, a further level of abstraction is already introduced to show the various mediators between reality and perception (between object and subject) in the sense of an onion model.
